Welcome Spring!

Oh this weather! This is why we left Chicago--no snow in March, just BEAUTIFUL spring days. We have been working on landscaping the front yard so the boys spent some time outside with us. The obviously weren't thrilled about it!Jack spent some time hanging out with his brothers while practicing his letters with sidewalk chalk.
Grandma Gail came over to help with the planting since Mommy and Daddy's thumbs are more black than green. Jack took a snack break with her :)

Big Brother

Jack is such an AMAZING big brother. He seriously adores the twins and is so aware of their needs. He still is obsessed with looking at their eyes and asks to hold them a lot. One of the cutest things he does is gets right in their face and says "Hey little fella!" Melt me.

Special Bond

There is something magical about the relationship between a Daddy and his son.

Is It Easter Today?

Jack wakes up every morning and the first thing he asks is "Is it Easter today??" At least he has decorations around the house to keep him excited for the next 2 weeks!

2 month stats!

Can you believe these sweet boys are already 2 months old??!!! Actually they were two months old on the 3rd but their 2 month check up wasn't until last Thursday. Will and Henry are such a blessing and the trials and tribulations involved to get them here were well worth it! They have added to our life in ways we didn't even know were possible and our hearts burst every time they smile.

Now for the update:

Will weighed in at a whopping 13lbs and is 24 inches long! Will has been dubbed "the serious one" because he has a killer grimace and rarely smiles for the camera. However, he is actually super giggly and can coo up a storm. He is the messiest eater you'll ever meet, leaving lots of milk in one of his seven chins! As for looks, Daddy affectionately called him "Ginger" because of his pastey white skin (thanks Mom!), red hair and blue eyes.Henry came in right behind Will at 12 lbs 12oz and 23.5 inches long. Henry has a dual personality as he can be super smiley and also stares off as if contemplating life. We think he might be the brains behind the operation ;) When it comes to eating, Henry seems to have discerning tastes. He's isn't particular about what he drinks but what kind of nipple it comes from. Avent nipples, no thank you. He'll take Dr. Brown's nipples please. Even though people ask Mommy and Daddy several times a day whether the boys are identical, they in fact look VERY different. Henry lucked out by inheriting Daddy's darker, tanner skin tone. He wasn't as lucky when he inherited Daddy's largish ears. He's sure to grow into them ;) Henry also has very dark hair and hazel eyes.
The boys are great sleepers and are getting closer and closer to sleeping through the night. We haven't started full-fledged sleep training yet but we are working towards getting them on sleep schedules. They still sleep in the co-sleeper in our room at night but will likely be making the "big move" later this week. They get their final bottle between 10 and 11pm and don't wake up until 5-ish. However, they pretty much zonk out around 8pm and we wake them for the bottle before bed. We're thinking that they may actually be ready for an earlier bedtime and are hoping they keep sleeping until 4 or 5am. We are big proponents of Weisbluth's method for sleep training and will start when they are 4 months old. If you have kids who aren't good sleepers, go out and buy his book "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" NOW. You'll be glad you did.

As you can see, the boys are little chunkers who have earned the nicknames Chubbs McGee and Tubby Magoo. They eat 4-5oz of formula every 2 hours so they are getting roughly 25 oz a day!
They are barely fitting in 3 month clothing, leading Mommy to believe that she will have 3 strapping young lads towering over her in a few short years!

Life with twins has honestly not been nearly as difficult as we anticipated. Sure, it has its challenges that don't come along with just one baby. Nana is here to help out a lot but when she isn't Mommy and Daddy's man-to-man coverage doesn't work because we are obviously outnumbered. We committed ourselves from the very beginning to getting Will and Henry on the same eating schedule and this has been our life-saver. Although it goes against the age-old saying of "don't wake a sleeping baby" we decided to feed both babies at the same time, even if it meant waking one up. Honestly, it was the only way to survive because otherwise we would have run into the horrible issue of getting one baby back to sleep just in time for the next one to wake up to eat and Mommy and Daddy would never have slept. Now the boys are on the exact same schedule and everyone remains sane. However, it can become challenging when there is only one adult around to feed both babies but we have managed to figure it out.

We are so fortunate to work for ourselves, which provides us with so much flexibility. The babies are quite the young executives since they frequently spend a few hours a day at the office and sitting in on meetings. Mommy and Daddy also switch off days of staying home with them while the other goes to work. We are so lucky! Seriously, if Daddy were still a big city lawyer working the crazy hours that he did, there is no way we would have survived without a nanny and a night nurse! Everything was simply meant to be!

Who Is Guilty?

Don't look at me! I didn't do it!

Hokey Pokey

Last night when Jack was supposed to be going to sleep, we overheard him on the monitor singing "The Hokey Pokey". We didn't even know he knew the song (guess he does learn a lot in preschool!) so we listened for a while. Unfortunately, doing the hokey pokey in bed leads to toddlers bumping into the wall and getting boo-boos so we eventually had to go in and put an end to the dance party. Jack made us promise that we would all do the hokey pokey in the morning :)

Daddy Was Supposed To Be Working From Home...

Grandma Gail

Grandma Gail and Steve came to visit last weekend and Jack couldn't decide if he wanted to love on her or his babies more.

Motivation

I wouldn't say that we are the kind of parents who bribe their kids but I would say that we use whatever motivational means necessary to get a desired outcome from a very stubborn and smart 3 year old.

For a year and half, Jack slept with this on his crib:Jack is super tall and learned to crawl out of his crib at 15 months! Not only were we not ready for him to be in a toddler bed, he wasn't mentally developed enough to understand the concept of staying in bed when we told him and for the entire night. Crib tent to the rescue! Seriously, it was a lifesaver. Jack slept, well, like a baby with it on his crib. However, when we found out we were having twins (and realizing that super tall Jack was way too big to sleep on a crib mattress) we gave in and bought Jack a big boy bed. Of course he loved it and we were quite surprised at how quickly he adapted to it. However, Jack took his new found freedom and ran with it. He stopped taking naps at home (UGH!) and he has the hardest time staying in bed at night. Most nights he literally gets out of bed 10 times for various reasons (he has to pee, he needs water, he heard a noise, blah blah blah). This lasts for up to 2 hours and some nights he doesn't fall asleep until close to 10pm, resulting in a super tired and cranky boy the next day. We have grown so frustrated and have had some serious heart to hearts about how to best handle this situation. The "super nanny method" of just repeatedly putting him back didn't work. Threatening to take his blankies away didn't work. Actually taking his blankies away didn't work. Yelling didn't work. Soft, smooth talking didn't work. Rewards might actually be working.

We decided to reward Jack if he stays in bed with the exception of getting up to go potty. For the most part, its has worked. We tell him he gets a surprise the next morning if he stays in bed and Jack is so motivated by "stuff" that he is pretty devastated if he gets up and loses the surprise. Because I don't want to just give him toys, we have tried to find things that are both educational and pretty exciting to him.

Puzzles--

Marbles. Jack LOVES LOVES LOVES marbles, probably because they are small and colorful and he has a lot of them. For some reason playing with them in a toilet paper roll makes them that much more awesome.
Lets just hope that Jack stays in bed enough that he doesn't care about the surprises anymore because we are running out of books, puzzles, and other relatively inexpensive surprises!

2 Different Personalities??

Is it possible that these 2 sweet boys already have 2 distinct personalities??Will--the serious one.

Henry--the goofball??

Sharing

Jack felt like Henry needed to use all of his blankies and pillow. So sweet :)
